Course Outline:

A semester long class that will examine health related topics that may include: Wellness, Fitness, Nutrition, Disease Prevention, Safety/CPR/First Aid, Stress Reduction, Feelings/Emotions, Multi-Cultural Health Practices, Adolescent Growth and Development, Substance Abuse and Prevention, Peer Pressure, and Conflict Resolution.

Material Required:

·        Pencil and Pen (we will use both)

·        Notebook Paper

·        3 Ring Binder Notebook (Separate from your school notebook (a one-inch binder would be great)

·        Fine Point Marker: any color (for correcting and labeling)

·        Student Planner (also needed for hall passes)

Optional Materials:  Colored Pencils, a Highlighter, a Ruler, and Note-cards

Attendance:

It is extremely important that you do your best to be in class every day.  If you are absent from class for any reason, it is your responsibility to get all missing assignments made up.  I encourage you to find a buddy in class that you can get missing notes from when you are absent.  You will be given the same amount of time to finish assignments that the rest of the class was given.  In the event of a long absence I will give you an alternative assignment to complete.  Once again I strongly recommend that you make a habit of being in class on a regular basis.

Class Discipline:

All students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately in class.  Any student who disrupts or interferes with other students’ right to learn will be given a disciplinary consequence in accordance to the discipline plan set forth in class.

Grading:

I will weigh student grades using the following method:

40 % of your grade is Classwork/Homework

30 % of your grade is Tests and Quizzes

30 % of your grade is Attendance/Participation

No Assignments can be turned in late for full credit.  Any assignment turned in late will lose point value.

For example:    1 – 4 days late equals    50 % of total points possible

More than 4 days late equals   0 % (no points possible)

Class Grading Scale:

            95 - 100 %      =          A

            90 - 92 %        =          A-

            87 - 89 %        =          B+

            84 - 86 %        =          B

            80 - 83 %        =          B-

            77 - 79 %        =          C+

            73 - 76 %        =          C

            70 - 72 %        =          C-

            65 - 69 %         =          D+

            60 - 64 %        =          D

            0 - 59 %          =          F

Extra Credit opportunities will be given periodically throughout the semester.
